about

dear (marginalized) tech worker:

Feeling stuck in Tech’s golden handcuffs? Dreaming of escaping for something with greater purpose? You’re not alone. But the decision to leave isn’t so simple.

systemic barriers

Those of us who are systemically disadvantaged — whether we are Black, Asian, Latine, Brown, female, disabled, queer, trans, visa holders, and so forth — face much higher risks and costs in leaving.

my story

I know this because I’ve lived it. I left Tech in 2018 after 8 years in the industry. While I’ve been working for myself since in the social impact space, I continue to face systemic challenges to this day.

I’m Sandra By Design, founder of Leaving Tech.

our purpose

That’s why Leaving Tech is an anti-oppressive destination. We’re here to help marginalized folks navigate through the systemic barriers of leaving tech and find values-aligned career alternatives.

We’ll start with a podcast and community events. And maybe more in the future.

leaving tech

(for good)

(for now)

(for my soul)

(for my health)

(for my freedom)

(for my values)

podcast

Our video podcast — launching in late 2026 — centers the voices of those who have been systematically harmed by the Tech industry.

what to expect

Through candid conversations with marginalized folks who have walked away, I’ll explore the many considerations (and reckonings) around leaving tech — and critically examine the oppressive nature of the Tech industry.

be a guest

I’m looking for guests from marginalized backgrounds who want to openly share their stories on their journeys in and out of Tech.

events

We’ll come together in safe, private spaces — online and in-person — to openly discuss our lived experiences as it relates to deciding to leave Tech, actually leaving, and carving out new paths.

join us in the Bay Area in August

We’ll be holding storytelling circles to hear from those who have made it to the other side (myself included!) and offer you a chance to surface what’s holding you back.
